Brian Schumacher joined KRA in 2021, and is passionate about the firm’s commitment to building healthy, inclusive communities. Brian holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Urban Planning from the University of Washington, and a Masters of Architecture from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He also both studied and taught classical painting and drawing for many years at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy and the Grand Central Academy of Art in New York City.

Having spent over 15 years as a timber framer, carpenter, and custom builder, Brian brings a deep dedication to integrating excellence in design with best building practices to his work at KRA. He is also a passionate advocate for hand and artisan skills, with a professional focus on adaptive reuse and the imperative of finding creative ways to revitalize and re-inhabit existing structures.

Though he was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and has traveled broadly, he and his wife fell in love with New England and are delighted to have now settled in the Pioneer Valley with their daughter, two dogs, and cat.
